Ethiopian Journals Online (EJOL) is hosted by Addis Ababa University. The objective of EJOL is to provide a platform to publish local journals online using Open Journals System (OJS) so as to increase participating journals visibility, and to the research convey through open access (OA). The EJOL platform is freely available to all locally published open access journals in Ethiopia.To participate in EJOL, journals may contact the host AAU.


  • The Ethiopian Journal of Education

    The Ethiopian Journal of Education (EJE) is one of the reputable journals published in the area of education. It is among the few pioneers in the publication of educational articles at least to recent time.  Its long-standing and uninterrupted history in the publication of scientific articles in Education and Humanities dates back to the 1960s. A retrospective glance from the time of its inception to the present shows that the Journal has passed through series of stages to reach the point of reputation.

  • The Ethiopian Journal of Higher Education

    The Ethiopian Journal of Higher Education (EJHE) is one of the publications of the Institute Of Educational Research, Addis Ababa University. The Journal is primarily devoted to disseminating findings of scientific investigations related to higher education. We solicit articles from researchers of high professional caliber. We also accept Commentaries, book reviews and case studies on issues related to higher education. 


    IER FLAMBEAU is one of the publications of the Institute of Educational Research (IER). It publishes modest research reports, educational issues, stories, views, facts and figures. Researchers, professionals, teachers (teaching at all levels – primary, secondary, tertiary) and students are invited to send their contributions to the IER for possible publication.

  • ZENA-LISSAN (Journal of Academy of Ethiopian Languages and Cultures)

    The Zena-Lissan Journal was started in 1996 by the then Ethiopian Languages Research Centre (ELRC), now the Academy of Ethiopian Languages and Cultures (hereafter AELC), focused especially on the cultures (folklores) and languages of different societies within Ethiopia. Since then, the journal has continued to be published biannually in Amharic and English languages aimed to encourage research and promote dialogue among scholars of interdisciplinary fields.

  • Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences

    Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences (JAES) is a peer-reviewed, Open Access journal that publishes original research as well as review articles related to agriculture and environmental sciences. The journal focuses on new methods and technologies for improving agricultural productivity, conservation of natural resources and marketing of agricultural products. Articles covering new insights into crops, livestock and environmental issues that contribute to the development of the agriculture sector are encouraged.

    Journal of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences is the publication of College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences of Bahir Dar University that operates a fully open access publishing model which allows open global access to its published content.

  • Journal of Indigenous Knowledge and Development Studies

    JIKDS is an open-access and double-blind-reviewed journal that publishes twice a year (January and July for call for paper publication and June and December for manuscript publication) by Bule Hora University, Ethiopia. It is intended to be a platform for the exchange of information and research results that describe significant advances in relation to the nexus of indigenous knowledge and development studies. It is committed to publishing quality works and serves as a communication medium among professionals, researchers, practitioners, and other interested scholars. Furthermore, it encourages researchers and publishers to focus on community-oriented issues that contributes to link development and indigenous knowledge.

  • Journal of Ethiopian Studies

    Journal of Ethiopian Studies (JES) is the first and the oldest academic journal in the entire history of Addis Ababa University, established in 1963 with the aim of conducting, promoting, and coordinating research and publications on Ethiopia, with particular emphasis on humanities, social sciences and cultural studies. It’s a bi-annual journal published bilingually in Amharic and English (Ge’ez, French, and Italian under special circumstances).

  • Ethiopian Journal of the Social Sciences and Humanities

    Ethiopian Journal of the Social Sciences and Humanities (EJOSSAH) is the publication of the College of Social Sciences of the Addis Ababa University. EJOSSAH promotes fresh scholarly enquiry on Ethiopia and the Horn of Africa. It is devoted to empirical and analytical research and its application in social sciences and humanities. It is a biannual journal that publishes its issues in December and June every year. The Journal encourages empirical and analytical research and welcomes both quantitative and qualitative research outputs.

    The Ethiopian Journal of Development Research (EJDR) is a biannual journal devoted to communicating development-oriented research, published by the College of Development Studies. The publication covers wide areas of development and attempts to share and nurture knowledge about the multi-disciplinary study of development problems of Ethiopia in particular and the less developed world in general. The journal publishes original articles, book reviews, synopses of major research, theoretical and methodological approaches in the broader area of development.   • Ethiopian Journal of Languages and Literature

    The Ethiopian Journal of Languages and Literature (EJOLL) is published by the College of Humanities, Language Studies, Journalism and Communication, Addis Ababa University. It publishes original and review articles, book reviews and short communications in English, Amharic, Oromo and Tigrinya languages. 

  • Zede Journal of Ethiopian Engineers and Architects

    Zede is a scientific journal on engineering science and application, produced under the auspices of the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology, Addis Ababa University. The main objective of the journal is to publish research articles, findings and discussions on engineering sciences, technology and architecture thereby assisting in the dissemination of engineering knowledge and methodologies in solving engineering problems. Technical Notes of significant contribution may be considered for publication.

  • The Ethiopian Journal of Health Development

    The Ethiopian Journal of Health Development is a not-for-profit peer-reviewed scientific journal that publishes analytical, descriptive, and methodological articles, reviews, brief communications, and commentaries on public health issues, to inform current research, policy, and practice in all areas of common interest to scholars in the field of public health. The journal publishes materials relevant to a wide range of disciplinary, inter-disciplinary, and trans-disciplinary studies.

  • Journal of African Development Studies

    Owned by the Ethiopian Civil Service University, the Journal of African Development Studies- JADS  was launched in 2008 , and relaunched in 2019, after a period of discontinuation, to engage in academic as well as policy-oriented research that contributes towards supporting the teaching and training mission of the University- founded on sound scientific research findings and informing and challenging policy formulation and implementation on matters of development in its broad range, notably, social, economic, environmental, political and related cross-cutting dimensions.  

  • Arsi Journal of Science and Innovation

    Arsi Journal of Science and Innovation (AJSI) is a multidisciplinary double blind reviewed journal published biannually in May and October. Special issues also may appear following conferences on which best paper are presented. The aim of AJSI is to disseminate scientific theories, research outcomes, innovative and novel methods in science and technology to the local, national, and international communities. The official language of the journal is English, but articles of national interest prepared in Amharic or Afan Oromo can be accepted.

  • Ethiopian Journal of Teacher Education and Leadership

    The EJTEL welcomes works on various aspects of teacher education and leadership including preservice preparation, induction and in-service development; modalities of teachers/leaders’ education; teacher professionalism; teacher/leaders demand and supply; teacher education policy; teacher education pedagogy; and teachers’ career life-cycle across all levels of schooling. EJTEL also welcomes interdisciplinary and comparative explorations in the areas of adult education, curriculum
    studies, educational psychology, early childhood education, languages education, science and mathematics education, the Social Science education, and Special Needs Education.

  • Journal of Business and Administrative Studies

    The purpose of JBAS is to provide practitioners and scholars opportunities for research based debate as well as discourse in the fields of business management, human resource management, accounting and finance, economics, project management, public and development management, marketing, and governance related fields. JBAS is a bi-annual peer-reviewed journal published by St Mary University (SMU). The first and the second issues of the journaL are published in June and December of every year respectively. JBAS is a nationally accredited journal by the Ethiopian Ministry of Education since 2021.

    The Ethiopian Journal of Police Studies (EJPoS) published by Ethiopian Police University is a pioneer journal in Police Studies devoted to the advancement of knowledge in such areas as criminal investigation; and crime control and prevention.  The journal publishes original articles, short communications and review articles annually in the area of police studies covering areas such as crime prevention, crime investigation, forensic, police administration, ethics, health, security and Development.   • Journal of Ethiopian Law

    The Journal of Ethiopian Law is a scholarly publication devoted to publishing
    unsolicited original scholarly submissions that make significant contribution to or
    bring new insight as regards the understanding, development and implementation of
    the law applicable in Ethiopia. The Journal accepts scholarly works of any genre:
    doctrinal, empirical, interdisciplinary, critical, socio-legal, feminist, historical, or
    comparative scholarships pertaining to the broad spectrum of legal, economic,
    political, social and technological issues arising in relation to Ethiopian law and
    related international law.

  • Ethiopian Journal of Human Rights

    The Ethiopian Journal of Human Rights (EJHR) is a multidisciplinary journal published by the Center for Human Rights, Addis Ababa University (CHR, AAU). The objectives of the EJHR include promotion of knowledge and dialogue on issues of human rights as multidisciplinary theme. EJHR envisions promoting human rights values including, but not limited to, understanding, tolerance, and participation. The EJHR welcomes solicited and unsolicited research articles, reviews, commentaries, decisions of courts/tribunals, opinions/notes/reflections, on various themes related to human rights.

  • The Ethiopian Journal of Business and Economics

    The Ethiopian Journal of Business and Economics (EJBE) is a biannual peer-reviewed publication of the College of Business and Economics, Addis Ababa University. It seeks to encourage thinking among academics, practitioners and policy makers in the fields of Accounting and Finance, Economics, Business Management, and Public Administration and Development Management. Equally important, its main mission is to stimulate research-based and inter- and multi-disciplinary debate on the issues involving the four fields particularly as these pertain to the Ethiopian setting and development challenges. EJBE publishes research reports, book reviews, and Master’s thesis and PhD dissertation (abridged versions or chapters). Academic articles and other publishable works from related disciplines are also welcome. EJBE is an authoritative and refereed journal.

  • The Ethiopian Journal Of Behavioural Studies

    The mission of the Ethiopian Journal of Behavioural Studies (EJoBS) is to advance the field of behavioural studies in Ethiopia through publication of peer reviewed, original, scholarly articles, reviews, and communications of ideas within educational and social settings. EJoBS is a bi-annual print Journal of the CEBS, AAU. Original research articles, meta-analytic studies, desk reviews and short communications of important theoretical and practical contributions in the area of behavioural studies are welcomed. Articles published in non-peer reviewed proceedings, and books can also be submitted provided the recency of manuscripts is maintained.

    Ethiopian Journal of Health and Biomedical Sciences (EJHBS) is open access, peer-reviewed journal that considers articles on public health, medicine, health sciences, pharmacy, and biomedical sciences. The journal has a special focus on the social determinants of health, the environmental, behavioral, and occupational correlates of health and disease, and the impact of health policies, practices, and interventions on the community. It also focuses on clinical, diagnostic, prognostic, and biomedical research.

  • OMO international journal of Sciences

    The OMO International Journal of Sciences publishes peer-reviewed original research articles, critical reviews, technical notes, future articles and short communications in various fields of basic and applied sciences of Agriculture, Medicine and Health Sciences as well as Natural and Computational Sciences. The journal regularly publishes two issues per year. Manuscripts  submitted to this journal  must  have not previously been published (except as an abstract or as part of a published lecture, or thesis) and are not currently being considered by another  journal.
