African Journal of Leadership and Development (AJOLD)

The African Journal of Leadership and Development (AJOLD) invites scholars, researchers, policymakers, and practitioners to submit original and unpublished manuscripts for Volume 11, Issue No. 1, scheduled for publication in June 2026.

AJOLD is a peer-reviewed, bi-annual academic journal, published in June and December, dedicated to advancing high-quality scholarship on leadership, governance, and development, with a strong focus on Africa and comparative global perspectives.

Journal Scope

Submissions may address, but are not limited to, the following themes:

  • Leadership theories and practices

  • Public sector leadership and governance

  • Political leadership and democratic development

  • Corporate leadership and organizational development

  • Educational leadership and institutional transformation

  • Ethical leadership, accountability, and integrity

  • Gender, youth, and inclusive leadership

  • Indigenous and contextual leadership approaches

  • Leadership and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

  • Innovation, digital transformation, and leadership

  • Crisis leadership, resilience, and change management

  • Comparative leadership studies

Types of Manuscripts

AJOLD welcomes:

  • Empirical research articles

  • Conceptual and theoretical papers

  • Policy and development-focused analyses

  • Systematic literature reviews

  • Analytical case studies

Submission Guidelines
  • Manuscripts must be original, unpublished, and not under review elsewhere.

  • All submissions undergo a double-blind peer-review process.

  • Authors must adhere strictly to the journal’s author guidelines and referencing style.

  • Review Decision Notification: May 2026

  • Publication Date: June 2026

Manuscript Submission: All articles should be submitted through our online submission system.

Authors are required to create an account for manuscript submission.

  • Existing Users: Log in using your email address and password.
  • New Users: Register to create an account.

Manuscripts should be submitted electronically via the journal’s official submission platform or designated email, in accordance with AJOLD submission guidelines.

Please remember that each author of a manuscript needs to submit two different documents using:

  1. Cover Page: This should include the title of the manuscript and the authors' contact information, including the author's full name and title, institutional affiliation, email, phone number, and ORCiDs (if available).
  2. Main Manuscript: This should contain the title of the manuscript, abstract, main body, references, and annexes (if available).

If the names of one or more authors are mentioned anywhere in the manuscript, including the reference list, please remove them for the time being. They could be added later, following the review procedure.

Submissions should NOT be made by email unless authors encounter serious problems. We therefore urge authors to submit their work ONLINE.

AJOLD encourages contributions that advance leadership and development scholarship and inform policy and practice in Africa and beyond.
