AUTHOR GUIDANCE
Before starting your submission, please visit our Zede Journal Template to download the official manuscript template and detailed instructions.
ZEDE is a scientific journal on engineering science and application, produced under the auspices of the Addis Ababa Institute of Technology, Addis Ababa University. The main objective of the journal is to publish research articles, findings and discussions on engineering sciences, technology and architecture thereby assisting in the dissemination of engineering knowledge and methodologies in solving engineering problems. Technical Notes of significant contribution may be considered for publication. Zede is an open access journal, which is published annually in both PRINT and ONLINE versions. All articles submitted for publication in the journal should comply with the following requirements:
- Manuscript Organization
The manuscript should have a separate title page. The rest of the manuscript should have the following sections: Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussions, Conclusions, Conflict of Interest, Acknowledgement and References section.
- Manuscript Preparation
- Style and format
The manuscript should be written with MS word 2007 or later using A4 size, double-spaced, single column with 25 mm margin on all sides. Normal, plain font (12-point Times New Roman) is preferred for text and italics for emphasis. Similarly, using tab stops for indents is preferred instead of the space bar. It is recommended that third person pronoun/s be used when referring to author/s.
- Headings
Manuscript sections and sub-sections should be limited to 3 heading levels: 1, 1.1, 1.1.1, 1.2, 1.2.1, etc. Numbered section headings include: 1. Introduction, 2. Materials and Methods, 3. Results and Discussion, and 4. Conclusion. The other headings (Abstract, Conflict of Interest, Acknowledgement, and References) are not included in section numbering.
- Page and line numbers
The manuscript file should have page numbers and continuous line numbers which can be generated using the automatic page and line numbering functions (in MS Word), respectively.
- Abbreviations
Abbreviations must be defined upon first appearance in the text. Authors are advised not to use non-standard abbreviations unless they appear at least three times in the text.
- Length of Article
The length of the article should not exceed word equivalent of 6000 words, or 20 pages including reference, double-spaced using font size 12, typed in Times New Roman. Papers containing more than 20 pages words will be returned to the author(s) to abridge.
- Title Page
Title page is a separated page before the text. It should include the following information:
- Title
The title of the paper should be phrased to include only key words avoiding as much as possible abbreviations and formulae. It must not exceed a length of 80 characters including spaces.
- Author’s Names, Affiliations and Corresponding Author
The given name and family name should be indicated clearly with the authors' affiliation addresses (where the actual work was done) below the names including the the corresponding author. See below:
Susan Jomo1 and DebelaGoshu2,*
1 School of _____, Department of------------, ------------ University, Nairobi, Kenya.
2 Department of------------, ------------ University, Jimma, Ethiopia.
* Corresponding author’s Email address: debela. goshu@------------
- Conflict of Interest
Any conflict of interest that may have influenced the development of the article must be indicated.
- Acknowledgments
Acknowledgments of people, grants, funds, etc. writing in full the names of funding organizations should be provided.
- Abstract
The abstract should state briefly the purpose of the research, the principal results, and major conclusions avoiding as much as possible citations/references. It should not contain any undefined abbreviations.
- Keywords
All articles must include Keywords not exceeding 6 in number immediately after the abstract avoiding general and plural terms and multiple concepts (avoid, for example, 'and', 'of').
- Illustrations
Figures should be prepared in black, for the print version and in color for the online version. They should be submitted within the body of the text and must be sized to fit in the column width. Explanations and descriptions must be placed in the text and not within figures. Figures should be cited in text in consecutive numerical order. Figure parts should be denoted by lowercase letters (a, b, c, etc.). Figures should include numbered captions just below the figures. See example:
Figure 1 Brick water absorption dependence on firing temperature.
- Tables
Tables must also be placed within the body of the text. They must be numbered in the same order as cited in the text. Explanations of tables must appear in the text and all tables must include numbered captions (just above the table). See example:
Table 1 Basic water supply system data
- Equations
Microsoft Equation Editor for display and inline equations is recommended. Equations can be cited in the text as:
- Equation (2) shows that… (if at the beginning of a sentence)
- As shown in Eq. (2)…..(if inside a sentence, phrase)
The equations numbers should be right justified as:
u(x,y)=-yθ(x) (1)
- Units
SI units must be used.
- Conclusions
A set of conclusions must be included at the end of the paper.
- References
Author(s) should follow the latest edition of IEEE style in referencing. References cited in the body of the article should be present in the reference list (and vice versa).
- In text Citation
Examples:
- Details of the experiment are reported elsewhere [13].
- Alemayehu [2] argued that...
- For example, see [3].
- A number of studies [1, 7, 12, and 27] have shown that…
- It is preferable to write “in [2]” instead of “in reference [2].”
- When citing more than one source at a time list each reference in its own brackets, and then separate with a comma or dash: [1], [3], [5]; [1] – [5]
- Reference Lists
To finish citing sources, a numbered list of references must be provided at the end of the paper. The list is comprised of the sequential enumerated citations, with details, beginning with [1], and is not alphabetical.
