Abstract

In this paper, the influence of transverse crack of a
simple rotor system on the non-resonant and resonant
response are discus,'}'ed. The existence of cracks on the
rotor changes the st~[rness and damping properties, as
a result the characteristic feature of vibration. For
theoretical investigation, Ihe stiffness a/the cracked
shaft is modeled approximate~v 'wilh a harmonica/~v
varying junction to simulate the opening and closing
of the crack with the rotation. On the basis of this
idealized model, the influence C!f a crack and its
depth both on the stationary and non-stationary
vibration behavior is investigated and numerical
results presented
