Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Author Guidelines for Manuscript Submission

1. About the Journal

The Ethiopian Journal of Language, Culture and Communication (EJLCC) is a peer-reviewed academic journal that publishes high-quality research in the areas of linguistics, cultural studies, communication, literature, and related interdisciplinary fields. The journal seeks to promote scholarly engagement with Ethiopian languages, cultures, and communication systems within global and comparative perspectives.

2. Manuscript Categories

EJLCC accepts the following types of submissions:

Original Research Articles (6,000–8,500 words)

Review Articles (up to 7,000 words)

Short Communications/Notes (1,500–3,000 words)

Book Reviews (800–1,500 words)

Interviews or Dialogue Pieces (up to 4,000 words)

All word counts include references, notes, and appendices.

3. Submission Requirements

3.1 Language

Manuscripts must be written in clear, academic English and Amharic.

British or American spelling is acceptable but must be consistent throughout.

3.2 Formatting

Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt

Line spacing: 1.5

Margins: 1 inch (2.54 cm) on all sides

Use APA Style (7th Edition) for citations and references unless otherwise noted.

3.3 Manuscript Structure

Manuscripts should be structured as follows:

a. Title Page

Title of the manuscript (concise and informative)

Author(s) name(s)

Institutional affiliation(s)

Email address(es)

ORCID iD (s)

The corresponding author clearly indicated

b. Abstract

150–250 words summarizing objectives, methodology, key findings, and implications

3–5 keywords (separated by commas)

c. Main Text Structure (for Original Articles)

Introduction

Literature Review

Theoretical Framework

Methodology

Results and Discussion

Conclusion

Conflict of interests

Ethical consents

Acknowledgments (if any)

References

d. Figures and Tables

Submit in the body of the text or as separate files

Numbered consecutively (e.g., Table 1, Figure 1)

Provide titles/captions

e. References

Use APA 7th Edition reference format

Include only sources cited in the text

 Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word (.docx) format.

Submit via the EJLCC online platform: https://ejol.aau.edu.et/index.php/EJLCC/about/submissions

A cover letter should accompany each submission, briefly introducing the work and confirming that it is not under review elsewhere.

5. Peer Review Process

Double-blind peer review

Initial editorial screening for scope and formatting compliance

Review timeline: 6–10 weeks

Final decision categories: Accept, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Reject

6. Ethical Considerations

Authors must adhere to the highest standards of academic integrity.

All sources must be appropriately cited.

Plagiarism (including self-plagiarism) will result in immediate rejection.

Ethical clearance is required for studies involving human participants.
