LEGAL UNIFORMITY IN PLURALISTIC SOCIETIES

Abstract

" Pl ural ism is a condit ion in which members of a common society are
internally distinguished by fu ndamental difrerences in their institutional practice.
Where present, such di fferences are not distributed at random, they normally
cl uster and by their clusters they sim ultaneously identify institutionally
distinct aggregates or groups and establish deep sociaJ divisions between them.
The prevalence of such systematic disassociation between the members of institutionally
disLinct collectivities within asingle society constitutes pluralism."]
