An Overview of the Determinants of High Fertilily in Ethiopia

Abstract

Evidence of high and somewhat rising fertility ill Ethiopia during the last two decades is presented. The associated accelerated population growth and the high matemal and child morbidity alld mortality risks are emphasized. An overview of some of the various factors that might have contributed to the prevailing level of fertility is presented. Various programmes of intervention are suggested in order to limit births and hence population growth. The need for a detailed data-based research is also underlined.
