Socio-Economic Situation of Street Children in Bahir Dar Town
Abstract
The main concern of this studt was to investigate the major reasons for streat children in Bahir Dar town to end up on the street. A total of 75 street chelderen 65
males and 10 females) were stratified random sampling from method
three kebeles Dar lown. Sintelured interview. both open ended 12 items
and close ended (lJ items), and observation were used to collect data Qalitative
and quantitative data were used to provide information about the
(family background). fn addition street
children's current status and their fUlure visions were analyzed and summarizedusing percentage
The data obtained revealed that 62. migrated from other and
rural areas to Bahir Dar while 37.3% of them were born and grow up in the lawn.
The data revealed that the majority the children were from poor
Poverty, family death and within the family were the main
reasons for coming out to the street, accounting 46. 30. and 17.3%
respectively .The main sources of income are carrying goods selling items such as chewing
gum, cigarettes, sugarcane, tissue paper, lottery tickets shoe shining beggining
and washing cars. The main problems they encountered were being beaten
by older street children money and police their

Finally, based on the findings conclusion and recommendations were forwarded.
