SHRINKAGE ESTIMATION UNDER PITMAN NEARNESS

Abstract

The Pitman Measure of Nearness criterion is applied to compare
the performance of the ordinary least square estimator and the shrunken estimator. This is done by considering. the weighted and the unweighted norms of both estimators. The corresponding Pitman Nearness probabilities are provided. An adaptive procedure for obtaining operational shrinkage factors is suggested.
