The Contribution of NGOs in Social Reconstruction

Abstract

It is known that in developing countri-es, NGOs play a significant role in the
provision of various kinds of services which promote social reconstruction. Ipj~
paper is, thus, aimed at examining the role played by some NGOs in the proces n;G
social reconstruction in Ethiopia. The writer has tried to survey the developm~
activities of three NGOs, i.e. Redd Barna-Ethiopia, Ethiopian Evangelical Ch
Mekane Yesus, and Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia.

the construction of educational and health institutions, in agricultural extel
programmes, and other similar humanitarian activities which enhance s
reconstruction.
The paper starts with briefly-highlighting the historical backgro.und of each
organisation; then, presents the various activities perfonned by the organisations. It
is then followed by a concluding remark.
